FBI treating Sikh temple shooting a case of domestic terrorism

Seven people, including the shooter, died today after a man opened fire at a Sikh Temple in Wisconsin in an attack that law enforcement officials are treating as a case of domestic terrorism.

Early reports indicate that a white male in his thirties shot two people outside a temple Oak Creek, Wis., this morning and four more inside the temple. He ambushed and shot a police officer who arrived at the scene. It was initially reported that  the wounded officer returned fire and killed the shooter, but police clarified this afternoon to explain that a second officer brought down the shooter. The wounded officer is reportedly in a hospital and expected to recover.

Three male victims of the attack are in critical condition at a local hospital.

The Federal Bureau of Investigations is treating the attack as a case of domestic terrorism — the same category as the Oklahoma City bombing and the anthrax letters, as Fox News noted — according to a press briefing from Oak Creek Police Chief John Edwards.
