The White House immigration policy would not prevent illegal aliens who have committed identity theft or have been driving cars without licenses from obtaining work permits, an administration official told reporters during a press conference on Friday.
It will also be extended to some illegals already in jail and to some who have already been approved for deportation by judges, he said.
The work permits — and the complementary access to welfare programs — will also be granted to individuals “with a significant disability … or [who are] far, far below the national poverty level,” the official said.
The two-year permits can be extended once they expire, the official added.

work permits for illegals, makes sense, and it is understood that driving without a licenses or using someone elses identification is sometimes a must to survive in the USA as an illegal individual, but hoping that that is the limit of crime allowed to get work permits. What I do not understand, work permits for total disable individuals does not make sense, and also that welfare is not just extended to illegals with extreeme disabilities and at low poverty levels, and welfare also for American Citizens.
We may not like this, however, it is the human way of dealing with illegal immigration. As I undertand it, in order to get a work permit, you will need a letter from the employer that will hire the illegal/with work permits, and have a job opening for them emmidiately. Please remember this is offer to all illegals, not just Mexicans, or is it just for border countries like Canada, Mexico, Russia?
Yes Russia is neighboring with Alaska, USA. Also, it does not make sense to offer work permits visas when we have the highest unemployment since the great depression, and many foreigners actually went back to their country, Mexicans were ask to return to Mexico in the 1930s.
President Obama, is making his own laws to gain votes, is there a comflic of interest here? reaching out to Latinos for their vote, hope he remembers people with only work permits visas do not vote. I am sure this recommendations probably come from our dear Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, who has used the poor latinos votes with promises he did not keep.
President Obama, might as well give felons and prisoners that are American Citizens the right to vote too. The prison would have their own pole workers. Desperat times call for desperat measures by the President.
