On Wednesday, comedian Jon Stewart featured a segment on The Daily Show called “You, Harry Reid, are terrible” during which he shamed the Senate Majority Leader for speculating about Romney’s taxes. Reid recently told The Huffington Post that a Bain insider claimed that Romney “didn’t pay taxes for 10 years,” after which Reid said, “Do I know that that’s true? Well, I’m not certain.”
Jon Stewart fired back at Reid: “Here’s a rule of thumb: If you have to follow your claim with the words ‘I don’t know if that’s true,’ then shut up. Otherwise you might as well put a dead cocker spaniel on your head and start yelling about birth certificates.”
He continued to scold Reid, saying, “You’re the Senate Majority Leader; you can’t just run to the Side-Boob Gazette with ridiculous speculations about what may or may not be in Mitt Romney’s taxes. That’s this show’s job.”
Yet, what makes Reid even more “terrible” in the Comedy Central host’s eyes is his subsequent comment about Mitt Romney’s dead father. Reid followed the unsubstantiated allegations with the statement, “[Romney’s] poor father must be so embarrassed about his son.”
Stewart replied in awe: “I cannot believe you just went dead-dad shame on Mitt Romney. As someone who has truly and thoroughly disappointed his still-living father on many occasions, let me just say, that is a bulls**t shot.”
According to Jon Stewart, the Senate Majority Leader is just like that one guy at the buffet “who does not know how to stop eating.” Perhaps now Reid will “shut up” about Romney’s taxes if he has no proof to back up his accusations.
