Texas A&M Caves to Leftist Pressure, Restricts Speech of Conservative Group

Over the past several days, Texas A&M administrators, a liberal activist, and liberal media outlets have targeted the Texas Aggie Conservatives (TAC) and restricted their right to free speech.

The campaign against the Texas Aggie Conservatives began with a blog post on the left-leaning Burnt Orange Report by University of Texas undergraduate and Think Progress intern Ben Sherman in Washington, D.C.

Sherman obtained a copy of a TAC recruitment screensaver ad and the inside story of how A&M administrators reacted to the ad by removing all ads in all the computer labs.

Sherman reported that “a staffer at the Evans Library noticed this ad…running on the library’s computers” and “reported it to the Dean of Libraries and the Vice President for Diversity.” Associate Dean of Academic Affairs Sarah Bednarz wrote about the ad, “Can it not come off ASAP? I had assumed that would be the case.”According to Sherman, Vice President of Information Technology Pierce Cantrell responded by removing all student organizations’ ads from computer labs. On July 9th, Cantrell sent an email out to all student organizations notifying them of this action. (Texas A&M is currently in a lawsuit for discriminating against TAC in access to student funding.)
