Obamacare is the biggest threat to American religious freedom today because it threatens to tear apart American Christianity, J. David Franks, who teaches at St. John’s Seminary in Boston, said Saturday at the National Right to Life Convention in Arlington, Va.
Liberal Christians, he said, care more about being seen as fashionable by secular liberal elites than they do about being true to their faith.
“The religious Left went out of their way to support Obamacare, but many still support it, despite the HHS Mandate. So that should tell you what they are really about,” Franks said. that “Obamacare is the most urgent threat to [Christian] solidarity”
Obamacare is wrong not only because people will be forced to give up their health care liberties, but because everyone will be paying for abortion, according to Franks.
“The mandate says we have to support abortive drugs. This plays into the ‘culture of death’,” he said, referring to the term the late Pope John Paul II used to describe those in favor of abortion and euthanasia.
Franks argues that things like Obamacare erodes society’s will to do works of charity and take care of those who cannot fend for themselves.
Because the Supreme Court upheld Obamacare, the only way of getting rid of the bill is if President Barack Obama is kicked out of the White House this fall, Franks said.
“We’ll do all that we can, but leave the rest into God’s hands,” he said.
