A Sign of the Times: Most students cannot go one hour without digital technology

America’s youth are addicted to technology, indicates a recent study.

The study, published by leading etextbook provider CourseSmart, claims that 40 percent of college students can’t go ten minutes without using some sort of digital technology.  More notably, a majority of students, 67 percent, could not go more than one hour.

The study also showed that 90 percent of students said they use some sort of device to help them with homework or studying, which includes the use of mobile devices, digital textbooks, eReaders and tablets.

Likewise, students were more likely to take a laptop to class (51 percent) than a book (39 percent).

Only 5 percent of respondents said a textbook was the most important item in their backpack.
