Axelrod claims the whole country is going through an ‘evolution’ on same-sex marriage

Obama campaign communications director David Axelrod appeared on CNN’s Piers Morgan Tonight Monday night to talk about President Obama’s stance on same sex-marriage after Vice-president Joe Biden expressed his support for same sex marriage on Meet the Press Sunday.

Axelrod addressed Biden’s comments and tired to tie them to President Obama’s views by saying,“I think the policy Joe Biden is describing there, that is the president’s policy. He believes that couples, heterosexual couples, gay couples should have the same legal rights.”

Axelrod argued that even though the President hasn’t publicly come out and supported gay marriage, his “actions speak louder than his words.”

He gave Obama credit for the “historic steps over the last three and a half years to stand up for the rights of gay and lesbian Americans.”

Many conservatives and liberals are wondering why Obama hasn’t clarified his views on gay marriage. Instead, he has allowed surrogates like Biden and Axelrod do the talking for him.

Axelrod later rationalized the Obama Administration’s stance as not just Biden’s stance but as the entire country’s.

“so the whole country is going through– has gone through an evolution. The presidents going through that as well.”
