US Debt Visualized: What would you could do with $50,000

For the third year in a row, Congress (the Democrat led Senate, specifically) has failed to pass a budget, continuing the federal government’s ability to recklessly spend my generation and future generations of Americans’ hard earned money.

A break down of the national debt shows that every American is currently on the hook for approximately $50,056 of government spending in addition to the extraordinary amount of tax money they already pay the federal government.

Below, I put together a chart of items that could be purchased with the money every Americans will eventually have to cough up to the federal government.

Francesca graduated from the University of Kansas with BAs in Political Science and Journalism. At KU she was an editor of the University Daily Kansan and an active member of Student Senate.
