DeMint: GOP Senate pickups likely in November

U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint (R-S.C.) smells the scent of GOP victories in the Senate come November.

“I am seeing opportunities for pickups in Florida, Wisconsin and Ohio,” DeMint told Red Alert Politics.

DeMint showed his clout in 2010 by working to elect Republican Sens. Marco Rubio (Fla.), Rand Paul (Ky.), Scott Brown (Mass.) and Mike Lee (Utah), through his Senate Conservatives Fund.

DeMint hopes to have similar success this election cycle.

Ohio Democratic Sen. Sherrod Brown has raised a lot of money, but DeMint is confident his challenger, state Treasurer and Marine Corps Reservist Josh Mandel, has what it takes to paint the state red in November.

DeMint has similar confidence in state Treasurer and conservative activist Don Stenberg in Nebraska who faces a likely challenge for the seat being vacated by retiring Democratic Sen. Ben Nelson from ex-Sen. Bob Kerrey.

The Senator characterizes Kerrey as “old ideas coming” home that are out of place in the current political marketplace.

DeMint has also endorsed Ted Cruz for the seat being vacated by retiring GOP Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison in Texas and former U.S. Rep. and statewide candidate Mark Neumann who is running to succeed retiring Democratic Sen. Herb Kohl.
